Go to sleep!

March 06, 2008 By: nooccar Category: Claire, Parenthood

Claire is almost three. Shouldn’t three year olds stop being two? My god! This chick has thrown a temper tantrum twice this week. Once it was in the record office at MCC while I was waiting to turn in my rosters (can you say ‘scanned, emailed, pdf!!!), and she just flipped. This happened twice this week. About 6 months ago , at night, we use to be able to put Claire in bed and pull close her door. She couldn’t open it because it always stuck, so she didn’t try. Then she got older, and she could open it. A few times we held it shut (so sue me!) until she gave up and went to sleep.

So when the heck did I start putting her to bed by laying with her and holding her hand until she fell asleep!? I just don’t know but this is out of hand. The last two weeks or so some nights I lay there so long waiting for her to fall asleep that I fall asleep! I finally told Donna to come check on me if I don’t come out after 45 minutes. But then sometimes Claire’s almost asleep when Donna comes in. Oooops. Some nights we just give up and let her fall asleep on a chair. That’s how tonight played out.

They say 3 is the new 2. The ‘Terrible Twos’ appears to be a horrid misnomer, actually specifying a range from 12 months up to and potentially including 18 years (then passing into the Tzaristic Threes?). They don’t warn you about this in the Parenting Manuals, and there are no refunds :)
